Disc Golf comes to Reno

Welcome to The Ranch ~ Disc Golf Course at Rancho San Rafael

The Ranch is Reno's first ever, permanent 18-Hole disc golf course.  Located on the north end of Washoe County's signature park, Rancho San Rafael, The Ranch has fast become one of the highest used public park facilities in town.

The course was designed by RDGA founder Michael Jacobus and went through several modifications as it was determined which areas of the park could be used and which were too environmentally sensitive. The original design for the Front 9 wrapped around the wetlands area behind the National Basque Monument and even included three basket locations on the south side of McCarren, utilizing the pedestrian tunnel. The Back 9 design was modified slightly to extend past the eastern trail or 'shortcut' and now includes room for Hole 16 and 17.

Ranch Disc Golf Course debuts at Rancho San Rafael ~ (Reno Gazette Journal)

Washoe County hosted a Tossing of the First Disc on Saturday, (May 21, 2011), in celebration of the completion of the county's first public disc golf course.

The new Ranch Disc Golf Course is at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park and is free to play. Disc golf is similar to regular golf. Participants throw a flying disc into a basket or at a target. The object of the game is to complete the course with the fewest number of throws. There are established disc golf courses in more than 20 countries, and the vast majority of them offer free play.

The club and the course were founded by disc golf enthusiast and association founder Michael Jacobus. The Reno Disc Golf Association also raised funds. Additional support and sponsorship was provided by local radio station 100.1FM ~ The X
